Thank you for your year end performance participation. It was a marvelous performance from all grades of ELC. I want to congratulate my class and parents. Children spent so much effort during rehearsals and they could show results of hard working on the stage with their confidence.

Program 1:
In Inquiry, we focused on "How we express ourself" expression of ideas and feelings enrich our sense of ourself, sense of tolerance and confidence.
Preschool 3 students told story  "We are going on a bear hunt", they played various instruments.

Program 2:
In inquiry, we also covered "Expression of ideas and feelings enrich our culture", we celebrated diversity. We chose Spain, Turkey and Japan, we focused on their languages, music and traditional dances. Children counted and said "Hello" in 5 languages (Japanese, English, Turkish, Spanish and Chinese) and they danced in traditional costumes.
Our 3 years olds know it is OK to be different and all diversities are good and treasure.

Week of Jan 30 - Feb 3

Hello everyone,

We had a very busy, excited and terrific week.
We celebrated Numeracy Day on Wednesday, Science Day on Thursday and Japanese Culture Day on Friday with great fun.
You may details and photos for each below.

Numeracy Day

First, ten centers were set up then all Elc classes met at our playroom. We sang numeracy songs then students were paired with friends from other classes. Pairs visited each center for 10 minutes, used manipulators and played together. Aim of pairing from different classes was letting students share their manipulators using experiences.
Our centers included number squeezing puzzles, linking numbers monkeys, count and trace numbers, pattern blocks, math nursery rhymes books, and etc.

Science Day

Students rotated between Pre 3, Pre 4 and Kindergarten for 20 minutes each and performed variety experiments at every classroom. Experiments were as below:

Pre 3 - Blow up a balloon with baking soda and vinegar
In this experiment, we nixed baking soda and vinegar and they formed carbon dioxide gas. This gas filled up the balloon. At the beginning, children tried to blew a balloon and then they blew with pump. They observed how much energy is needed to blow a balloon and they said both way is tiring. Then we performed our experiment and observed that we can do the same job with less effort. They were so excited to mix chemicals, to observe reaction and balloon got bigger and bigger.

Pre 4 - Homemade butter

In this experiment, children observed physical changes from liquid to solid as they used all five senses (see, hear, smell, taste and touch) to make butter.
They used whipping cream and marbles in a jar and they shaked them. During the experiment, they observed phase  change from liquid to solid.  At the end of the experiment, they ate dinner roll and butter that they made.

Kindergarten - Static electricity

There was a glued tissue paper butterfly on a cardboard and student charged balloon by rubbing it in their hair. When they hold balloon over butterfly, it hugged balloon with wings.
Usually, an atom has an equal number of protons and electrons. Electrons have negative charge and protons has positive charge of electricity. Opposite charges attract so materials rub together and one body is negatively charged and other positively. Therefore static electricity results.

Japanese Culture Day

We celebrated Japanese Culture Day on Friday. All school (ELC and Primary) met at gym and Mr. Ishizuka and Mr. Chiba gave information about "Setsubun". We met with storytellers and  we,preschool 3, went to our classroom to listen Oni story. We had so much fun.
Then our class were divided into two as blue team and red team. Blue and red teams met with respective teams from other classes and joined shiratama eating activity and gold fish craft activity. Shiratama was very yummy and gold fish craft was fun. After activities, student got together at gym with their bean bags. First we sang Japanese folk song "Mamemaki" and they throw beans to Oni (Mr Ulu wore oni mask. and red jacket). It was enthusiastic.
