Inquiry

We continued our inquiry unit, Where We Are in Place and Time. This week, we focused on foods from various countries and we discussed preparation and ingredients of them. We cooked Japanese onigiri and Turkish waffle.
We checked cooking ways of rice in India, Turkey and Japan, they cook rice different than each other.
Japanese rice is sticky and it is cooked with steam only but Indian and Turkish rice is cooked with water, oil and salt. Therefore chopstick, hand and fork are used respectively. Our aim was to see difference of approaches of countries for same food.
We also cooked Turkish waffle and observed decoration difference than Japan. It was decorated with whip cream, chocolate sauce, strawberry, kiwi and banana, then it was wrapped.
Difference brings rich perspective and empathy, observing differences of food cultures was a solid example for us.

Phrases of the week: "Do you like..."
