Who We Are: Myself and My School

Week 4: Who We Are: Myself and My School

Every child is different. They are unique and special in their own way. Children develop differently, have different personalities, possess different traits, strengths and require different kinds of support to meet their individual needs.

In our first inquiry unit - Who We Are, we focused on "Myself and My School." Our activity includes self-introduction, interview, brainstorming, school tour/visit, choosing and gathering the things that they like about school.

Take a look at some of your activities below.

Inquiry:

Self-introduction: The students enjoyed this introduction activity. We form a circle and pass the bean bag around as we sing the "Hickety Tickety Bumble Bee." This activity is great for taking turns and following directions.

Interview: The students take turns in asking "What's your name?"

Brainstorming: Word Web - What is school?

School Tour/Visit: The students picked a colored paper and group themselves accordingly. Each room has its designated number and one representative picked a number and they went out to visit each room and greeted the teachers or staff "Good morning, how are you?"

Choosing and gathering: There were different sets of pictures about school facilities, centers etc. on the floor and the students were asked to choose and gather 3 or 4 (according to their age) things that they like about school.

Math:

Children learn best through play. The students played a matching game to help them recognize numbers. Different sets of monkey animal numbers were on the floor. The teacher raised the number card and the students raised their hands and say the number out loud and find the matching animal number on the floor.

Snack and free-play:

Language:

We learnt uppercase and lowercase letter Aa and its sound. We traced and colored as well. And we made an interesting A...lligator! It was fun to cut and stick the shapes on letter A.

Vocabulary words: alligator, alphabet, apple, ant, astronaut, and ax.

* (Parents, you can involve in your child's learning by asking them questions like: "What letter did you learn today?" What are the "A" words you learned today?" This is great to assess how well they learn in class and help them think and remember the words they've tackled.)

We went "over and under." But first, we did our usual warm-up stretching.

Closing Circle:

We hug and not fight. :)
